Our exciting Central City Marathon course has been hugely popular. Over four laps it takes in and flat, scenic and spectator friendly tour of iconic landmarks such as Hagley Park, the Christchurch Town Hall, Canterbury Museum and the Avon River. The course is NZ's fastest & the distance is certified to IAAF & AIMS standard.

The 2025 course map below is subject to change for 2026 although will remain a four-lap course, starting on Park Terrace and finishing in Hagley Park.

  • The Full Marathon course will be four laps of the following subject to council approval:

    ● Starting on Park Terrace, the course heads south on Rolleston Ave to Cambridge Terrace.

    ● Veer left and follow Cambridge Terrace around toward Durham Street South.

    ● Continue on Cambridge Terrace heading north towards Durham Street North and turn right into Gloucester Street.

    ● Cross the Avon River, veer left into Oxford Terrace towards Armagh Street.

    ● Turn right into Armagh Street and continue east until Madras Street.

    ● Turn right into Madras Street, left into Gloucester Street and right into Latimer Square, keeping Latimer Square on your right.

    ● Turn left into Hereford Street and left into Barbadoes Street and head north now.

    ● At Armagh Street turn left, then right into Madras Street, right into Kilmore Street, left into Oxford Terrace and right into Barbadoes Street.

    ● Turn left and head east now along Kilmore Street all the way to the eastern end of Oxford Terrace, where you turn left to follow a cycle path anti-clockwise around to Barbados Street, where you turn right.

    ● Head north on Barbados Street for 100m, turn left into Salisbury Street, then left into Madras Street and right into Kilmore Street.

    ● Follow Kilmore Street west to Park Terrace, then turn right and head north to Harper Ave.

    ● Turn left over the bridge and follow Harper Ave for approximately 1.1km. The route then veers left into Hagley Park, and follows the cycle path anti-clockwise around the outside of the park to the corner of Deans Ave and Riccarton Ave.

    ● From 11:30am, turn left over the bridge and follow Harper Ave for approximately 500m. The route then veers left into Hagley Park, and follows the cycle path anti-clockwise around the outside of the park to the corner of Deans Ave and Riccarton Ave.

    ● At Riccarton Ave, turn left into the central cycle path toward Victoria Lake.

    ● Keeping Victoria Lake on your right, continue straight ahead on the central cycle path heading towards the Armagh Street Bridge.

    ● On the final lap, approximately 100m past Victoria Lake, you will be directed left through the trees onto the central Village Green to enter the Finish Chute for the final push to the finish line.

  • Note: This is 2025 Aid Station information and subject to change for 2026. However we anticipate a similar number and spacing of Aid Stations.

    Aid stations will serve water and PURE Nutrition isotonic drink in paper cups (no sponges, coke

    or bottles). Aid stations will also feature first aid and toilets.

    Aid Stations will be at the following positions and corresponding K marks:

    • Kilmore St: 3.6k, 14.1k, 24.7k, 35.2k.

    • Peterborough St: 6.8k, 17.3k, 27.9k, 38.4k.

    • Hagley Park West: 9.1k, 19.7k, 30.2k, 40.8k.

    • Rolleston Avenue: 11k, 21.6k, 32.2k.

    Special Drinks

    Full Marathon Special Drinks will be catered for after the first lap (11k onward). Special Drinks must be supplied by the participant ready-made in plastic bottles and marked clearly with participant race number & the drink station. They should be handed in at our Info Desk inside the HQ Marquee 30min prior to the Full Marathon Start.

    Drink Station Lay Out

    Drink Stations will be set up in order of Special Drinks , then PURE, then water. There will be space between each table. Marshals will hand out drinks as much as possible, but it gets busy so be prepared to grab a cup from a table. Marshals will also try to hand out Specials Drinks, so call your number but be prepared to stop for your drink if it is busy.
